Every Life A Miracle

"A vessel unto honor, sanctified, meet for the Master’s use and prepared unto every good work." II Timothy 2:21

Captain Fujita, a Japanese naval commander in 1941, helped plan the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. He shouted, "Tora, Tora, Tora" as the planes left his aircraft carrier.

American pilot Jacob de Shazer flew for Captain Jimmy Doolittle on April 18, 1942 and bombed Tokyo in America’s first military response to the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor. His plane was shot down. He survived and served in a Japanese prison camp until the end of World War II. The imprisoned American asked his captors for a Bible. A year and a half later, May 1944, a guard brought him a Bible, flung it at him, and said, "Three weeks you can have it. In three weeks I will take it away." Three weeks later the guard took the Bible, and de Shazer never saw it again. But the Holy Spirit had done His convicting and saving work. Jacob de Shazer had hated the Japanese, but by the power of God’s Word from a Gideon New Testament which his captors allowed him to read, de Shazer was converted to Christ during his imprisonment. He saw two of his companions shot by a firing squad and another died of slow starvation, but God kept de Shazer alive for His purpose.

Captain Fujita survived the war, his aircraft carrier being the only one of the Pearl Harbor attack group that was not sunk. He was stationed at Hiroshima in August 1945 but was called to Tokyo the day before the attack. He and others inspected radiation infested Hiroshima the day after the bomb fell, ignorant of the dangers. All the other men died of radiation poisoning but not Captain Fujita. Three times his life had been spared. He said, "Some great power is watching over my life, and I will spend the remainder of my life seeking to find it."

Jacob de Shazer was freed and returned to America. God called him to be a missionary to Japan and his former captors. He put his salvation testimony into a tract – "From Pearl Harbor to Calvary." He handed these tracts out on the streets of Tokyo, witnessing to the saving power and love of Jesus Christ for the Japanese.

In 1948, Captain Fujita received one of these tracts from Jacob de Shazer. Fujita thought, "I know what Pearl Harbor is but do not know about Calvary." Captain Fujita read the Gospel tract and was converted to the Lord Jesus Christ. Fujita became one of the most powerful Japanese Christian evangelists of his generation. Our God is a miracle working God Who changes lives, even the life of the man who planned Pearl Harbor!

Every life is precious to God. God knows every sparrow and has the hairs of your head numbered. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
